Introduction to Pottery in Ottawa, ON
Soldier On, in collaboration with Hintonburg Pottery will host an introduction to pottery course on Tuesdays, May 10-24, from 9:45 a.m. until noon, in Ottawa, ON. This activity will bring together both serving and retired ill/injured CAF members, allowing participants to connect through peer support and encourage a healthy, active and creative lifestyle.
This event will allow for seven ill/injured serving or retired members of the Canadian Armed Forces to participate in introductory pottery lessons with expert instruction and demonstrations, and hands on experience.
The aim of this activity is to provide an opportunity for both serving and Veteran ill/injured CAF members to participate in three two-hour private classes where they will explore basic forming clay through hand building while exploring many different techniques from stamping, texturing to drawing on clay and slip decorating to create unique pieces of artwork.
This event is open to all levels, but it will move at a pace comfortable for beginners.
All equipment and supplies will be provided.
Selected participants will require an apron, comfortable clothing and comfortable closed to shoes (which may get mud on them), and an eagerness to try something new and exciting.
The number of Soldier On participants is limited to seven.
Minimum eligibility criteria
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from the NCR who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.
Serving Members
Medical clearance may be required by your chain of command.
Mental & Physical Requirements
- Participants must be able to tolerate in two hours of light-paced activity.
- This activity is accessible to those using daily aids to mobility.
- Participants must have some degree of manual dexterity.
- Participants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment.
